What a statutory declaration is
A statutory declaration is a statement of facts that you declare to be true and accurate. It can be used as evidence.
Statutory declarations can be used for many purposes and can be requested by a person, organisation or government agency.
Some common uses for statutory declarations include:
- visa applications
- insurance claims
- superannuation claims
- employment and leave applications
- legal evidence.
The Commonwealth, states and territories all have different statutory declaration requirements. If you’re not sure which type of statutory declaration to make, check with the person or organisation that asked for it.

- get your Commonwealth statutory declaration witnessed remotely using a video link
- get your Commonwealth statutory declaration witnessed in person.
