Social activities if you have disability
How the NDIS can help with social activities
If you’re eligible for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), you may get funding to help with social activities. Your NDIS plan may cover:
- specialised equipment or equipment modifications to help you join in
- a support worker who can help with things like changing into sports clothes or setting you up before the activity
- help to travel to the event if you can’t use public transport and no other options are available
- help to build skills so you can take part in the activities.
Find out more about social and recreation support on the NDIS website.
What transport discounts and subsidies are available
To get to local events, programs and social events, you may be able to use public transport, taxis or community transport. You could also get transport discounts from your state or territory government.
Find out more about transport on the Disability Gateway website.
Where to find local events and community programs
To connect with your community, you may want to get involved in social activities, local events or sports.
Find activities and events on the Disability Gateway or My Community Directory website. These links will take you away from myGov.
If you have a companion card, your carer may get free entry to venues and events. Find out more about the companion card.
