Getting financial help after a natural disaster

If you’ve been affected by a natural disaster, there’s financial support and services to help you.

Australian Government disaster payments

Disasters you can claim for

You can claim online for:

  • Far West New South Wales storms and power outages, October 2024.

Payments if you lost income

Payments if you were injured or had major damage

Find a service centre

You can visit a Services Australia service centre if you need help with payments. Mobile service centres are usually available in areas affected by a natural disaster.

If you’re not eligible for government support

You can apply for emergency relief support on the Australian Red Cross website.

State and territory disaster support

If you’ve been affected by a natural disaster, you may be eligible for support and payments from your state or territory government.

  • Pause repayments

    If you’re affected by a current disaster event, you can pause or change your Centrelink debt repayments.
  • Other payments

    You may be eligible for other payments that can help support you while you recover.

No Interest Loans

You may be able to get a No Interest Loan (NIL) from Good Shepherd to help you with costs. 

NILs let you borrow money for essential goods, such as white goods and car repairs. You may also get help to pay for a rental bond. You pay no interest and you only repay what you borrow.
