Your teenager’s education and future

Supporting your child’s learning can help them get the most out of their education.

You can help their learning at home by:

  • encouraging them to do their homework
  • making sure they attend school
  • helping them balance their studies, work and leisure time
  • encouraging activities outside of school, for example, music lessons or sports.

Setting your child up for the future

In high school, your child will start thinking about their future. When they finish school, they may want to:

  • work full time
  • do an apprenticeship or traineeship
  • continue studying at university or vocational education and training provider.

They may need guidance to help them decide what they want to do. You can help them find a fulfilling and meaningful career by asking them:

  • what they enjoy
  • what subjects they like and do well in
  • what’s important to them
  • about their career or study options.
