Fuel costs
Help with fuel costs
Conflict overseas has increased fuel prices and put pressure on Australia’s fuel supply. The Australian Government is working with states and territories, industry and international partners under the National Fuel Security Plan. The Plan supports a reliable fuel supply, including temporary measures to help with fuel costs.
The fuel excise has been reduced until 30 June 2026 to help lower fuel prices. The fuel excise is a tax you normally pay when you buy petrol or diesel. There are also temporary changes affecting some businesses, including those using heavy vehicles.
Find fuel-saving tips and learn about the National Fuel Security Plan and government actions on the FuelPlan.gov.au website.
Read about the ATO fuel response on the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) website.
Using fuel check apps and websites
You can use fuel check apps or websites to help you compare the cost of fuel in your area.
Some state and territory governments have their own fuel check apps and websites:
- FuelCheck NSW for New South Wales and the ACT
- MyFuel NT for the Northern Territory
- FuelCheck Tas for Tasmania
- FuelWatch for Western Australia.
You can find fuel price apps or websites suggested by other states including:
- fuel pricing information for South Australia on the South Australian government website.
