Fuel costs

Help with fuel costs

Conflict overseas increased fuel prices and put pressure on Australia’s fuel supply. To help with fuel costs, the Australian Government introduced temporary measures.

The temporary fuel excise reduction ended on 2 August 2026. From 3 August, fuel excise duty rates increased. You can find the latest rates on the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) website.

Using fuel check apps and websites

You can use fuel check apps or websites to help you compare the cost of fuel in your area.

Payments for travel costs

If you get a Centrelink student payment and need to travel, you may get help with transport costs.
