Recover your account using Digital ID

Use your Digital ID to recover your myGov account.

You can sign in with your Digital ID if it’s connected to your myGov account. If it isn’t connected, it can be used to recover your account.

The only Digital ID you can use with myGov now is myID.

To recover your account, your:

  • myID must have a Strong identity strength
  • name, date of birth and email address in your myGov account must match your details in myID
  • myID can’t currently be connected to your myGov account.

Use myID to recover your myGov account

Follow these steps:

  1. Go to myGov and select Sign in.
  2. Enter your username and password and select Sign in.
  3. Select the option for not being able to use your sign in option.
  4. Select Continue with Digital ID.
  5. Select myID as your Identity Provider.
  6. Enter your myID email address, then select Login.
  7. Log into your myID app using your password, fingerprint or face.
  8. Enter or accept the 4-digit code in your myID app.
  9. Give your consent by reviewing your details and selecting Consent.

What to do if your password is turned off

If your password is turned off, you’ll need to contact the myGov helpdesk to have it turned back on. When your password is turned back on, you can connect your myID to your myGov account and recover your account.

What to do if you can’t use myID

If you don’t want to or can’t use myID, you’ll need to create a new myGov account. Contact the myGov helpdesk to release your email if you want to use it to create a new myGov account.
