Subscribe to 2026 Census updates through myGov
Australia’s next Census is on 11 August 2026.
What the Census is
The Census is a snapshot of Australia and tells the story of how the country is changing.
Census data is used to inform important decisions about transport, schools, health care, infrastructure and business. It also helps plan local services for individuals, families and communities.

How to complete the 2026 Census
This year, for the first time, you can subscribe to get updates and access the 2026 Census through myGov. Only one person per household should subscribe.
This new option gives you convenient access to complete the online form on the Census website. The information you provide is collected by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) and used only for the Census.
myGov is one way to access the Census. Find out more about doing the Census in your preferred way and what information you’ll need on the Census website.
What you’ll get if you subscribe
If you subscribe through myGov, you’ll get:
- 2026 Census updates sent to your myGov Inbox
- a link sent to your myGov Inbox to access the Census.
You’ll be automatically unsubscribed once the Census has closed in October 2026.
When you can subscribe
From 18 May to 6 June 2026, you can subscribe to get 2026 Census updates through myGov.
How to subscribe
When you’re signed in to myGov, you can subscribe to 2026 Census updates through your account settings:
- Select the My account or Menu option, Account settings and then Subscriptions.
- Under Notifications from other services, 2026 Census updates select Subscribe.
You’ll then need to follow the prompts to finish your subscription. Once complete, you’ll get a myGov Inbox message confirming your subscription.
How to unsubscribe
You can choose to unsubscribe at any time. If you unsubscribe, you won’t get any more messages about the 2026 Census sent to your myGov Inbox. You’ll still need to complete the 2026 Census, even if you unsubscribe.
To unsubscribe, select the unsubscribe link from your myGov Inbox message.
When you’re signed in to myGov you can also unsubscribe through account settings:
- Select the My account or Menu option, Account settings and then Subscriptions.
- Go to Notifications from other services, 2026 Census updates and select Unsubscribe.
You’ll need to follow the prompts to finish this process.
