Find out the different ways to sign in to myGov.

There are 3 sign in options for myGov.

You can sign in using one of:

  • Digital ID
  • a passkey
  • myGov sign in details.

Digital ID

A Digital ID is a secure way to prove who you are online.

You can use your Digital ID to sign in, once you’ve set it up and connected it to your myGov account.

If you access Australian Taxation Office through myGov

If you sign in to myGov using your Digital ID and access ATO online services, you need to continue using this sign-in option to access ATO online services.

This only affects access to ATO online services through myGov. You can still access other linked services in myGov using your myGov sign-in details, such as your username and password.

Passkeys

Passkeys are a more secure alternative to passwords. A passkey lets you use the security features on your phone, computer, tablet or security key to sign in to myGov.

These could include:

  • biometrics, like fingerprint recognition or face recognition
  • screen lock, like a PIN or swipe pattern
  • security key.

myGov sign in details

Use your myGov username, password and multifactor authentication option.

Multifactor authentication is when you use 2 or more different types of actions to verify who you are.

When you sign in with your myGov username and password, you can use these multifactor authentication options:

  • SMS codes
  • myGov Code Generator.

If you can’t use a multifactor authentication option, you may choose to sign in with secret questions and answers. But there are steps you should take to make sure your account is as secure as possible.
