How to get it

When you claim an eligible payment

You don’t need to submit a claim for Rent Assistance. Services Australia will automatically assess if you’ll get Rent Assistance when you claim an eligible payment.

When you’re getting an eligible payment

Services Australia will automatically assess if you’ll get Rent Assistance when you update your accommodation details. This includes:

  • your address
  • your accommodation type
  • how much rent or accommodation costs you pay
  • who you live with
  • how many dependent children are in your care.

When to report a change in circumstances

You must tell Services Australia within 14 days if your accommodation details change.
