These are Services Australia payments.
Who can get it
To get one or more ABSTUDY payments you must be all of the following:
- an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Australian
- in an approved course, Australian Apprenticeship or traineeship
- not getting another payment to study or train.
How to get it
Depending on the type of student you are and the payment you’re claiming, there are different ways to claim.
You may get more than one ABSTUDY payment at a time.
Select your circumstance to learn more on the Services Australia website:
- parent or guardian of a school child living at home
- parent or guardian of a child living away from home to go to school
- student in high school, university or other higher education
- apprentice
- student or apprentice in custody.

Claim online
You can claim online if you’re claiming ABSTUDY Living Allowance or ABSTUDY Incidentals Allowance.
You'll need to link Centrelink to your myGov account, if you haven’t already.

Follow the steps to create a myGov account. After you’ve created one, you can link services to your account.
