Tertiary Access Payment

A payment to help students with the cost of moving from regional or remote areas for tertiary study.

It is a payment of up to $5,000. This is a Services Australia payment.

Who can get it

To get this payment, you must be starting study at a tertiary education provider within 12 months after completing year 12. You must also:

  • be from a regional or remote area
  • be moving to study at a tertiary education provider that’s at least 90 minutes away from your family home by public transport
  • have parents or guardians whose income is under the parental income limit
  • be 22 or younger on the day you start your tertiary course
  • meet the study rules.

How to get it

Claim online

You'll need to link Centrelink to your myGov account, if you haven’t already.

If you don’t have a myGov account

Follow the steps to create a myGov account. After you’ve created one, you can link services to your account.

If you can’t claim online

Call the Youth and students line on the Services Australia website.

Help in your language

Call the Centrelink multilingual phone service on 131 202 to speak with someone in your language.
