Your rights as a separated parent

Know what your rights are when you’re a separated parent.

What your rights are

You have the right as a parent to raise your child according to your own values as long as these values don’t put your child in harm’s way.

If you’re being denied access to your child

You have the right to see your child if you’re legally allowed to. You may want to speak to your child's other parent to discuss your feelings about the situation. You can remind them that you have the right to see your child.

If you’re unable to come to an agreement, find out what options you have on the Family Violence Law Help website.

Find out about children and family law on the Family Relationships website.
