Find services and payments to meet your health care needs.

Finding health services

If you need to find health services in your area, use the find a health service tool on the healthdirect website. You can search for GPs, pharmacies, dentists and more.

Learning about your health care costs

Knowing how much a health service costs can show you how much you’ll be out of pocket for a health care service or when choosing a provider.

To find out how much other people have paid for a health service, use the Medical Costs Finder on the Department of Health and Aged Care’s website.

Getting help with health care costs

Medicare can help pay for some or all of your costs when you need:

  • to see a GP or specialist
  • tests or scans, such as x-rays
  • surgery or procedures by a doctor
  • eye tests from your optometrist.

Find out more about what Medicare covers on the Services Australia website.

Private health insurance can help to cover other medical expenses.

If you’re living with disability

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) supports people with disability so they can get the financial support they need. You can see if you’re eligible by completing the checklist on the NDIS website.

You can also find out about how to apply for the NDIS on the NDIS website.

If you’re a veteran

The Department of Veterans’ Affairs can provide support to Australian Defence Force veterans.
